Maths
At John Wilkinson Primary School and Nursery, we are working with the SHAW Maths Hub to develop and implement a 'teaching for mastery' approach to maths. We believe that everyone can become a confident mathematician and aim to provide every child with the skills, vocabulary and resilience to meet this aim.
For this academic year (2024 - 2025), the school is continuing to use Power Maths (WR edition) which enables staff and children to work collaboratively on improving understanding and fluency with mathematical concepts.
Have a look at the video below to learn a bit more about PowerMaths.
We are also developing additional ways to improve fluency in learning mathematical facts. In EYFS and KS1 this is supported by the use of Mastering Number. A short daily maths session to assist in subitising and acquiring knowledge of number facts.
In KS2, we are using interventions from Number Sense to identify and close gaps that are apparent, and help all children to feel confident in their maths fact knowledge.
FunKey Maths and Times Table Rockstars are also being used in KS2 to support acquisition and fluency in times tables and we would encourage you to support your child in the acquisition of fact learning at home.
